Hangout Canopy solves this problem, by watching your friend’s public activity and sending all public hangouts back to the Hangout Canopy network.
Anyone running Hangout Canopy will see hangouts in the extension window. Our extension also lists hangouts from your circles that aren't public, which will not be shared.
