Fragile Oasis originally shared this post:
Twice a year, near the winter and summer solstices, the astronauts living and working on the International Space Station are in a constant state of twilight, as the satellite’s orbit nearly parallels the terminator – the line that separates the dark night and illuminated day on Earth, the third planet from the Sun. +Don Pettit who has been on board the International Space Station since December 2011, says he can turn one way and see night, turn the other way, and see day. The +NASA robot, Messenger, does the same kind of thing as it orbits Mercury, the closest planet to our shared Sun -- and just like the humans on the International Space Station, sends pictures home to prove it.
