Como encontrar tu lugar en la comunidad Google+Katherine Bond originally shared this post:
My Seven Rules for Stayin' Alive and Thrive'n on G+
I warned you that I'd be back some time to share more, after I had experienced the G+ community for a long while. Well,
I'm back with some thoughts. Hope they are of some value...First and Foremost: Learn How to Use Google
Think of Google like a new video game or a new computer program. You would take the time to learn about something you bought. Do the same with G+ or you'll be frustrated and confused.
Some things I had to learn right away were:
--The Basic Stuff that lets you navigate G+: keyboard shortcuts, Chrome and its extensions, how to plus one or share a post, etc.
--Creating My Profile -- necessary if you want people to be interested in you (look at other people's profiles if you need ideas)
--How to Comment on someone else's post and Create my own Posts
--How to Form Circles -- those very important people you'll develop relationships with
--How to start or participate in Hangouts
I could go on and on, but there are some really good articles written by:+Google+ Help (Unofficial) +Jens Graikowski +Ronnie Bincer +martin shervington (and his book The Art and Science of Google+)+Jaana Nyström +Bud Hoffman and many others (my apologies to the many others I haven't mentioned).
They're like well-written "How to" manuals, and these great people are more than willing to help if you have questions.Look Around at Other People's Posts and Decide Who and What Might Be Interesting to You
I still do this all the time. I do read the posts of the people who are in my Circles, but I enjoy going over to the posts of people who aren't in my Circles, too. It's a great way to meet new, fascinating people.
Feel free to comment. That's how they get to know you. That's how to discover that you have a lot in common.Find Your G Spot
By that, I mean find what you want to post about. It doesn't have to be a specific area of interest all the time; in fact, I've noticed that most people develop multiple areas. You can be like me and post what interests you today...that's really OK. You don't have to be consistent in your topics. For me, the whole idea of G+is to enjoy what you're posting and to let people get to know you through your posts. Be sure that you're enjoying yourself. If you're not, you won't come back to G+ on a regular basis. By the way, your bliss may be as a commenter or +1er on other people's posts or as a sharer of other people's posts. Hey, that's OK. It is your bliss, after all. Express Your Passion with Compassion
Don't be disappointed if a lot of people don't share your passion. If you don't get a lot of plus ones or shares, so what! You had fun posting it, I hope. Eventually, as you get to know people on G+, you'd be amazed how tolerant the community is in encouraging you in your passions -- even when you know it's just not their thing.
I continue on with #hamstermonday despite the fact that I know that no one, but me, finds it funny. (My apologies in advance to all the sweet people who have +1d and commented on my endless hamsters.)Be Tolerant of Other People's Interests
So what if that's the 50th picture of a flower you've seen today. It's their photo of a flower and -- if you take the time to read their post -- you'll find out why it's important or special to them.Play Nice...you'll make more friends that way
If you want G+ to be something that is in your life for a long time, civility with others is very important. Sometimes, you just have to reach the point where you agree to disagree, because just like on the playground, if you try to bully others or take your ball and go home, you're not going to make many friends.
An important thing that I've learned is: It's perfectly OK to block someone who refuses to be civil or polite. Since I've learned this, my whole G+ experience is happier and smoother.
Also, don't demand that someone become your best friend overnight. Put yourself out there and -- just as in real life -- get to know people slowly. (You can't hurry like.)Communicate...Communicate...Communicate
If you find that G+ is a Ghost Town, it's because you haven't communicated enough. Go to others' posts and open some doors -- by commenting. You'll discover there are plenty of people behind those doors just waiting
to communicate with you...and they're from all over the world. How cool is that?
If you'd made it to the end of this post, my congratulations...and thanks. I really do enjoy G+...a lot. That's why I'm still here, and I presume that's why you're here, too.
Have an good day. :-) (Oh and yes, do use those emoticons.)
